Holistic dentistry in Beverly Hills, for your whole self.
We believe dentistry should support your entire wellbeing, not just your smile. Oral health is directly connected to whole body health, and every choice we make reflects that.
Your mouth is not separate from the rest of you. We practice dentistry that listens to the whole body, choosing materials and methods that work in harmony with your health, so the care you receive here leaves you feeling well, not just looking it.
Our approach to holistic care.
Four principles guide every plan we build, from the first conversation to the final result.
- Biocompatible materials
- Non toxic, body friendly materials chosen to work in harmony with you.
- Minimally invasive
- Conservative techniques that preserve your natural tooth structure.
- Personalized planning
- A treatment plan built around your body, not a template.
- Long term wellness
- We favor lasting health over short term fixes.
What holistic dentistry means here.
Holistic dentistry, often called biological dentistry, treats your mouth as part of your whole body rather than as a set of teeth to repair one at a time. There is very little difference between the two names, and many dentists use them interchangeably. Both describe a way of working: biocompatible materials, minimally invasive care, and the time to understand how your oral health fits with the rest of your health.
At our Beverly Hills practice, that comes down to a few practical choices. We use mercury free materials and favor all ceramic, metal free restorations. We prepare teeth conservatively, keeping as much natural structure as the result allows. And we look at your bite, your gums and your breathing before any cosmetic work begins, so a new smile is not built over a problem that was never addressed.
Dr. Stefan Filip is our holistic dentist, and also a certified Invisalign provider and a myofunctional therapist. He earned his D.M.D. in Bucharest and his D.D.S. at USC, and pursued advanced training in physiologic, aesthetic, biological and restorative dentistry. His care puts education, prevention, function and wellbeing at the center. He works alongside Dr. David Frey, a recognized TMJ expert with more than 35 years of practice. Each part of our holistic care, in more detail.
Biocompatible restorations.
When a tooth needs repair, we use mercury free, tooth colored materials. Porcelain fillings carry no metal, bond to the tooth and support it, and need less natural structure removed than older amalgam. Where a filling can save a tooth that might otherwise be crowned, we prefer the filling.
Safe amalgam removal.
Older metal fillings are often dental amalgam, and a key ingredient in amalgam is mercury. We avoid it in the fillings we place, for the sake of our patients, our staff and the environment, as our post on why we avoid amalgam explains.
When an old amalgam filling needs to come out, we follow the SMART protocol, short for Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique: a set of protective steps designed to limit exposure to mercury vapor for you and for our team. The tooth is then restored with a mercury free material.
Airway and sleep dentistry.
Holistic care looks at how you breathe and sleep, not only at your teeth. For sleep apnea, Dr. Frey works alongside board certified sleep physicians and uses airway imaging to understand each case. Where an oral appliance is appropriate, he fits one that holds the lower jaw forward, keeping the airway open as you sleep.
Dr. Filip is also a myofunctional therapist. Myofunctional therapy starts from what we call the Big 3: tongue posture, nasal breathing, and lips that rest together comfortably. Simple, guided exercises done daily at home retrain those muscle patterns. Because the jaw and airway are connected, this work is planned with the joint in mind, often alongside our TMJ treatment.
Ceramic implants.
When a tooth is missing, an implant takes the place of its natural root. For patients who prefer metal free care, we offer ceramic implants in place of titanium. Our board certified periodontist places dental implants, and whether a ceramic implant suits your case is confirmed at your consultation.
Ozone therapy.
We use medical grade ozone for gentle disinfection and healing support. Along with laser dentistry, which we use for soft tissue work and gum line contouring, it is part of how we keep care as gentle and conservative as possible.
Preventive care.
Preventive care is where we favor lasting health over short term fixes. We take the time to explain how your oral health connects to the rest of your health and how your own daily care supports it, and to answer every question you bring. The aim is a long term plan for your mouth and your wellbeing, not a single visit.

Questions about holistic dentistry.
What is the difference between a holistic dentist and a biological dentist?
Very little. The two terms are used interchangeably, and both describe dentistry that treats the mouth as part of the whole body, with biocompatible materials and minimally invasive care. The larger difference is between either one and a traditional approach, which our article on holistic and biological dentists explains.
Do you remove old amalgam fillings, and how?
Yes. We follow the SMART protocol (Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique), a set of protective steps designed to limit exposure to mercury vapor during removal. The tooth is then restored with a mercury free material such as a porcelain filling. Whether and when an older filling should be replaced is something we discuss with you at your consultation.
Do you offer metal free dental implants?
Yes. For patients who prefer metal free care, we offer ceramic implants in place of titanium, as part of our holistic approach. Implants are placed by our board certified periodontist, and whether a ceramic implant suits your case is confirmed at your consultation. Our dental implants page covers the treatment itself.
Is holistic dentistry only for cosmetic work?
No. Holistic principles shape everyday care here, from fillings and implants to sleep apnea, TMJ and prevention. They also shape cosmetic work: we look at your bite, gums and function first, and favor conservative preparation and metal free materials. Our article on holistic cosmetic dentistry explains how the two meet.
What should I expect at a first holistic visit?
Your first visit is a private consultation that includes a full clinical and smile analysis, a discussion of biocompatible material options, and a conservative treatment plan built around your goals. Expect questions about your health history, your sleep and any material sensitivities, and time for your own questions. If an older restoration, your gums or your bite need attention first, we plan that before anything cosmetic.
